INEC Releases List Of Governorship, State Assembly Candidates Today

ABUJA – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will today release the list of governorship and State Assembly Candidates for the March 2, 2019 gubernatorial and house of assembly elections in the 36 states of the federation.

Prof. Manhood Yakubu, INEC chairman who disclosed this Wednesday in Abuja noted that the release at INEC website and offices in the states, was in compliance with the Act and election timetable earlier released by election umpire.

He made the disclosure while swearing in a new Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Elder Monday Udo Tom, who was immediately deployed in Bayelsa. The new REC from Akwa Ibom was confirmed recently by the Senate.

Yakubu said all the RECs were not expected to serve in their home states but in other states.

Urging the REC to be firm and courageous, that INEC chairman told him to commence work immediately as there was no time left.

The presidential election comes up in 15 days.

“As a resident electoral commissioner, you will also be responsible for the implementation of the commission’s policies. In doing so, you will exercise supervisory control over personnel, resources as well the legal and administrative processes in the state to which you are posted.

“You will also interact with various categories of stakeholders. In doing so, you must maintain the required openness and consultation,” Yakubu said, urging him to ensure he relates cordially with stakeholders group.
